About the Role – AI Developer

Fluent is building a growing portfolio of AI-powered products. As an AI Developer, you will take end-to-end ownership of one AI product, working on production systems used by real customers. You’ll build and ship features, contribute to architecture decisions, and help scale the platform in a live environment.

Depending on business needs and your fit, you may work on:

• Marea (formerly Alara): AI-driven dental practice management platform for patient communication, scheduling, and operational workflows.

• Sadie Enterprise: Enterprise-grade AI voice agent managing live customer calls with a human-in-the-loop system.

• New AI Product (TBD): Early-stage AI initiative offering the opportunity to shape product direction and architecture from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Product & Feature Development

• Build and ship production features across frontend and backend.

• Design and implement API endpoints and backend logic.

• Integrate with enterprise APIs and internal AI services.

• Write and maintain tests for critical workflows.

• Own and evolve key product areas.

Production & Reliability

• Monitor, debug, and resolve issues in a real-time AI system.

• Respond to operator and stakeholder feedback.

• Improve system reliability, observability, and performance.

Collaboration & Architecture

• Work closely with senior engineers on architecture and technical decisions.

• Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback.

• Document systems and features for long-term maintainability.

Qualifications

Required:

• 2+ years of professional software development experience (or equivalent high-impact project experience).

• Strong knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript.

• Hands-on experience with React and/or Next.js.

• Solid understanding of REST APIs and relational databases.

• Familiarity with AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT).

• Comfortable owning features end-to-end, from requirements through deployment.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.

• Familiarity with Tailwind CSS or component libraries.

• Exposure to voice AI, conversational AI, or real-time systems.

• Experience with enterprise integrations and production environments.

• Open-source contributions or side projects you can showcase.
