Role Overview
The Manager, Reinsurance leads a team responsible for the administration and monitoring of Wawanesa’s Corporate Reinsurance Program. This includes ensuring all reporting requirements are met, overseeing internal catastrophe modeling, and liaising with other departments as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and monitor reinsurance contracts (~$100 million in cost).
Manage monthly ceded recoveries (casualty, catastrophe, and facultative).
Monitor facultative placements by regional branches.
Report monthly to reinsurers and provide annual reinsurance and earthquake reporting to management.
Ensure regulatory earthquake filings are completed.
Work with external parties: reinsurers, brokers, and catastrophe modeling.
Oversee allocation of reinsurance premiums.
Identify and recommend changes to the reinsurance program.
Provide guidance and performance management for direct reports.
Present ceded budgets and catastrophe projections to senior management.
Perform ad hoc requests and additional projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in actuarial, reinsurance, underwriting, or claims roles; leadership experience preferred.
Extensive knowledge of the Property & Casualty insurance industry and reinsurance.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Strong leadership capabilities; ability to develop and communicate a vision.
Adaptability to change.
Actuarial exams preferred but not required; CIP or ARe designation desirable.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: $130,000 – $160,000 CAD/year (adjusted based on location, experience, and market conditions).
Eligible for annual bonus plan, leave-of-absence top-ups, vacation, personal days, premium-free benefits, and pension plan.
