About the Role
The Technical Assistant will join Fife Council’s School Transport Team, responsible for arranging safe, efficient, and cost-effective transport for children and young people, including those with Additional Support Needs. The team manages home-to-school transport for over 13,000 pupils daily, with an annual budget of £19M.
Key Responsibilities
Arrange new transport and amend existing contracts
Assess transport entitlement and design taxi/minibus journey specifications
Liaise with transport providers, schools, parents, and other services
Order and issue transport equipment
Investigate and resolve daily issues and complaints
Negotiate contract costs with transport providers
Assist in walking route assessments and on-site checks for buses, taxis, and minibuses
Maintain accurate data using transport management systems
Experience & Skills Required
Educated to SCQF Level 6 (e.g., Highers or SVQ Level 3)
Experience working as part of a team
Ability to make informed decisions and use initiative
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, able to work to tight deadlines
Good communication skills, confident in dealing with the public
Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft applications and transport management systems
Knowledge of Fife Council School Transport Policy and relevant legislation is helpful but not essential

Job Details
Salary: £28,175.91 – £30,691.29 per year
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Pattern: 36 hours/week, Monday to Friday
Work Location: Bankhead Central, Glenrothes (with remote working opportunities)
